What Pasaj Is — and What It Is Not
Pasaj is a book swap platform.
It is NOT
- A bookstore
- A second-hand marketplace
- An auction platform
- A payment-based trading app
There are no buying or selling features. All interactions revolve around mutual agreement to swap books nearby.
Every book you add becomes available for a potential book exchange with another reader.

The Journey of a Book in Pasaj
Swapping a book follows three major phases. Understanding these phases will help you navigate the app confidently.
Phase 1: Add a Book
The journey begins when you add a new book to Pasaj.
Once added, the book becomes eligible for swap. Other users nearby can discover it and send proposals. Without adding a book, you cannot participate in a book exchange.
This is the foundation of the swap process.
Phase 2: Proposal
Proposals can be:
When both parties agree on a proposal, an in-app chat is automatically initiated.
At this stage, either party may:
- Continue toward completing the swap.
- Withdraw from the potential swap.
- Keep their subject books available for other proposals.
The proposal agreement simply moves the process forward into discussion.
Phase 3: Chat and Final Decision
Once a proposal is mutually agreed, the chat phase begins.
This is where both parties:
- Discuss logistics
- Clarify expectations
- Decide whether to proceed
If both parties successfully exchange books in real life, one of them must open the chat options and select Mark as Swapped
After this action:
- The other party has 72 hours 🕛 to confirm or deny the swap.
- If no action is taken within 72 hours, Pasaj automatically confirms the swap.
Confirmed swaps are moved to the Completed Swaps page.
If either party decides not to proceed, the swap can be withdrawn before marking it as completed. Read more at Mark as Withdrawn.
Summary
The core journey inside Pasaj is simple:
- Add a book
- Send or receive a proposal
- Chat and decide
- Mark as swapped or Mark as withdrawn
Understanding this flow will help you confidently swap books nearby, manage proposals, and complete book exchanges without confusion.
