Overview
Mark as Swapped is one of the most critical actions in Pasaj. It officially verifies that two books have been exchanged between two users in real life.
The exchange method does not matter. It can be face-to-face, cargo delivery, or any mutually agreed method. What matters is that both parties have physically completed the book swap.
This action directly affects:
- The status of both books
- The related chat
- Any other incoming and/or outgoing proposals related to the swapped books
- Any other chats involving the swapped books
For this reason, you should only mark a book as swapped after the exchange is truly completed.
Before You Mark as Swapped
As explained in Getting Started, the journey of a book in Pasaj follows a structured flow:
- A book is added to Pasaj.
- A proposal is sent or received.
- The proposal is accepted.
- A chat is automatically created.
- Users discuss the details of the exchange.
It is important to understand that accepting a proposal does not mean the swap is completed. The agreement simply unlocks the chat.
Users must use the chat to:
- Confirm the condition of the books
- Decide the exchange method
- Agree on logistics and timing
- Clarify any final details
Only after the books are physically exchanged should one of the users proceed with Mark as Swapped.
How to Mark a Book as Swapped
Once the exchange is completed in real life:
- Visit the Chats
page in bottom navigation bar. - Open the relevant chat where the swapped books are discussed.
- Tap the more options
button in the top right corner. - Select Mark as Swapped.
- Confirm your decision when Pasaj asks for final verification.
After confirmation, a system message will appear in the chat informing both users that the swap is awaiting the other party’s verification.
What Happens After You Mark as Swapped
Once a user confirms the swap, the other user has 72 hours to respond.
There are three possible outcomes ⤵️
The Other User Confirms Within 72 Hours
If the other party confirms:
- The swap is officially completed ✅
- Both books are removed from each user’s My Books
page. - The books are moved to Completed Swaps

- A final system message confirms completion inside the chat.
- The chat is closed and archived.
At this point, the lifecycle of both books within Pasaj is finalized.
You can review completed exchanges anytime from the Completed Swaps
section within My Books
page. See Completed Swaps for details.
The Other User Declines
If the other party declines the swap:
- The chat reopens automatically.
- Both users can continue discussing the issue.
- Either party may decide to Mark as Withdrawn and close the chat permanently.
This ensures that misunderstandings can be clarified before finalizing the exchange.
No Action Within 72 Hours
If the other user neither confirms nor declines within 72 hours:
- Pasaj automatically confirms the swap.
- Both books are removed from My Books

- The books are transferred to Completed Swaps

- The chat is closed and archived.
This prevents swaps from remaining in an unresolved state.
Impact on Other Proposals and Chats
Marking a book as swapped has system-wide consequences for that book.
Once a swap is done and confirmed by both parties;
- All active incoming proposals for the swapped books are automatically declined (if any).
- All active outgoing proposals for the swapped books are automatically withdrawn (if any).
- Any other active chats involving the swapped books are automatically marked as withdrawn.
This ensures:
- No duplicate swaps
- No conflicting agreements
- Full transparency for other users
- A consistent and reliable book exchange process
In simple terms, once a book is marked as swapped, it no longer exists in any active transactions. It has completed its journey.
Important Considerations
Mark as Swapped is not reversible once completed.
You should only use this action when:
- The books have been physically exchanged.
- Both parties agree the swap has been completed.
- There are no pending disputes.
If you are unsure, continue the discussion in chat before taking action.
Using this feature responsibly ensures trust, accuracy, and fairness across the Pasaj community where users swap books nearby, exchange books nearby, and reliably find books nearby.
